Kill Zone
Specific time windows in the ICT framework where institutional activity and high-quality volatility are statistically more likely to occur.
Kill Zones are specific trading windows defined within the ICT framework, based on the premise that institutional order flow is not evenly distributed throughout the day but concentrated around the open of major financial centers.
The four commonly referenced Kill Zones are: the Asian Session (which sets the day's initial range), the London Open Kill Zone, the New York Open Kill Zone, and the London Close window. The London and New York opens typically carry the highest volatility and liquidity, making them the primary focus for most ICT traders.
The practical value of Kill Zones is narrowing focus: rather than monitoring charts around the clock, traders concentrate attention during these higher-probability windows to look for confluence among BOS, CHoCH, and liquidity sweeps — improving efficiency and reducing noise.
Time zone conversion and daylight saving shifts affect the actual local time of each Kill Zone. Traders should reconcile the correct windows against their own location and broker server time to avoid missing or misjudging a session due to time-zone errors.
